Resolution of problems that may result from the presence of contaminants in aquatic ecosystems can be complex, due in part to the complexity associated with the fate and effects of various contaminants, but also due to the numerous elements that typically comprise a successful study. These can range from conceptual design and planning of a study, all the way through to reporting and communication of findings to clients, regulators, and the general public.

	conceptual design and planning of small and large (e.g., multi-stakeholder) studies;
	co-ordination of study participants;
	preparation of Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs), Sampling and Analysis Plans (SAPs) and other planning materials and documentation;
	collection of any needed water, sediment, or biota samples, using appropriate techniques;
	management of sub-contracting analytical labs and other support firms;
	analysis and evaluation of analytical chemistry and biological data;
	preparation of electronic data deliverables (EDDs), and co-ordination with electronic reporting systems;
	preparation of GIS-based support materials;
	preparation of concise, informative, and easy-to-read reports;
	presentation of study and study results to interested parties.
